Kellogg | Pappano get:
Elling, Aaron MIN PK
Cannon gets:
Northcutt, Dennis CLE WR
|
Kellogg| Pappano :
I hated the thought of giving up Dennis Northcutt. Now
that he is back signed and happy in Cleveland, it is possible he
will be a great pickup. But we really wanted two place
kickers and two defenses on our roster.
A miscommunication with my partner led to the Northcutt pick.
In WCOFF, which our league scoring is based on, teams get 20
roster slots. In the FAD we are limited to 18.
In getting Elling, we get a PK who is on a very proficient
offense. This should allow him plenty of opportunities to
score. And though both of our kickers are now in the same
division, they do not share the same Bye week.
|
Cannon :
I was intending to snag WR Curtis STL as an 'extra' WR.
Northcutt may be better - or at least the same - quality.
In hind site, Mare and Vinatieri are preferred over Elling. Both
are 'safer' roster players.

Tony Holms gets:
10.08 pick - QB Joey Harrington DET
11.05 pick - TE Boo Williams NO
13.05 pick - PK David Akers PHI
17.05 pick - DT Cowboys DAL
Dolfi | Walls gets:
10.03 pick - QB Jake Delhomme CAR
11.10 pick - DT Panthers CAR
13.10 pick - QB Kurt Warner NYG
17.10 pick - PK Doug Brien NYJ
|
Holms :
I was looking at a handful of guys with 10.03 and decided I
could still go in a favorable direction if I moved down to
10.08. I move up in 3 other rounds which will hopefully
put me in a position to acquire slighter better backups.
In a format where you never know if your backup will be a
starter for you any particular week, it seemed like a good trade
for me as well as a good trade for the Dolfi/Walls team.
They were in a position where they were looking at a number of
owners between 10.05 and 10.08 with only 1 QB and I felt they
were probably trying to trade up to take Delhomme. If I
stayed in 10.03, I would have taken Delhomme, so they did get
their man by moving up. Having McNabb and Plummer in the
fold I had a few options at 10.03 and decided I'd let the
next 5 picks decide my direction for me. As it turned out,
I ended up taking my 3rd QB which I didn't expect to get.
Delhomme and Harrington were the last 2 QBs that had any appeal
to me in this draft and I was pleased to still get one of them
after trading.
|
Dolfi | Walls :
Well... sometimes trades work out, sometimes they
don't. This was a case of the latter.
We think we are making the smart play here by trading
up over the other 3 teams in front of us that need a
backup QB as much as we do. In our minds we have 2
players in mind: QBs Delhomme and Brunell. We like the stability
of Delhomme's situation the most, so we grab
him and can't believe our luck in vaulting over the
other 3 teams still needing a QB.
Not only do those 3 teams NOT take Brunell, they don't
even take QBs !! So we could have still gotten one of
the 2 QBs (if not both) by standing pat.
Oh well, if nothing else, the trade made sure we got
the backup QB we wanted, and we only give up a few
spots in the 11th, 13th and 17th rounds, so we aren't
hurt too badly by this apparent blunder.

Cannon gets:
10.02 pick - WR Andre' Davis CLE
12.02 pick - RB Mike Anderson DEN
Del Pilar | Bonini gets:
10.07 pick - WR Deion Branch NE
11.06 pick - QB Mark Brunell WAS
|
Cannon:
Several things about Andre' Davis really interest me. 1) He has
shown 'good' abilities during his first two Browns' seasons. 2)
WR Kevin Johnson is gone from the team, 3) QB Garcia should be a
positive for the pass offence, 4) I have limited respect for the
other Browns receiving targets.
For these reasons, I traded up to claim Davis.
|
Del Pilar | Bonini :
|
Hickerson gets:
8.07 Pick - WR Ashley Lelie DEN
12.07 Pick - RB Chris Perry CIN
Cannon gets:
WR Rod Smith DEN
18.04 pick -
|
Cannon:
Baby steps. We are taking baby steps on the way to FAD success.
Dealing for RSmith enables the team to have a better starting
lineup option for the cost of a twelfth rounder.
Besides all that, the Broncos should be a fun team to watch this
season.
|
Hickerson:
I
was approached by TC to move Rod Smith shortly after I drafted
Smith. I was not anxious to trade Smith and we haggled for a few
minutes. I do believe Smith was a better option than the guy
that I ended up drafting, but the more I consider it, the more I
feel that Lelie will produce very
close to Rod Smith’s numbers. And moving up from 18.4 to 12.7
should more than make up for any difference. This was a trade
that fits well into my strategy for the draft.
|
Cannon gets:
5.01 Pick - TE Todd Heap BAL
11.01 Pick -RB Richie Anderson DAL
Cahill gets:
5.06 Pick - WR Andre Johnson HOU
9.06 Pick - WR Donald Driver GB
|
Cannon:
Scratching the itch. That's what
this trade was all about. With TE Heap as the remaining
'important' undrafted TE, it seemed best to claim him at a
reasonable (minor?) cost.
In this 5th round draft, delaying a selection from the mid-9th to
the top of the 11th round is a very fair cost for being able to
secure a instant TE starter. I get a take-now FF star for a
'hopeful' 9th rounder. Dandy.
|
Cahill:
Once I had secured Santana Moss at
4.12, I knew that I was looking at a list of four players, two
of which were preferred over the other two, but none so much
that I wouldn't have been happy with any of them.
That, my friends, is the ideal
time to trade - when you would be happy with any of a number
of players.
In examining the next few
selections, I settled on TC as a potential trading partner.
I thought he might be going WR, and because four other owners
between us were sitting on only one receiver, it made sense to
see if he wanted to move up.
After some pleasant negotiation,
the price upon which we settled was a pretty significant move
several rounds from now. I will pick up his 9.06 in
exchange for his 11.01 in addition to moving down only five
spots in this round.
With the move in this round, I
will still very likely get one of the four players I want.
With the move up in the ninth, I will be in a position of
strength, drafting my 10th player before six other FanExers
have their ninth rather than taking him after everyone else
has selected his 10th. This will give me a multitude of
strategy options at that stage, whether it is backing up one
of my running backs, securing a very good backup quarterback,
or selecting the best defense on the board.
Turns out TC coveted Todd Heap,
and if any of the five gentlemen drafting between us had their
sights set on Heap, this will turn out to be a very nice trade
for both TC and myself.

Nulty gets:
2.08 Pick - WR Holt STL
3.05 Pick - RB Shipp AZ
5.05 Pick - QB McNair TEN
Dolfi | Walls gets:
2.11 Pick - RB Barber NYG
3.02 Pick - WR Owens PHI
4.11 Pick - WR SSmith CAR |
Nulty:
Because
I took LaDanian Tomlinson at Number Two overall, I’ve been
lumped in with all “the running back hungry FanEx owners”.
I
kinda resent that stereotype. I drafted Tomlinson because he was
the second best player available, not because he was the best
running back available.
I
consider the top three wide receivers, Randy Moss, Torry Holt,
and Marvin Harrison first round talents and difference makers. I
would have considered any of them over the likes of a Domanick
Davis or Kevan Barlow or Fred Taylor had I drafted later in the
round. I don't mean disrespect
to the owners that took the running backs, it's just a
difference in philosophy.
When
all three dominant wide
receivers fell to the middle of the second round, all three were
far more valuable than their draft position.
Because
of the way they fell, it was an opportunity to move up a few
slots to get a second first-round draft pick. I was happy to
give up three slots in the third and six slots between the
fourth and fifth to get what I believe is a top 10 player.
I
was fortunate enough to get my choice between Holt and Harrison,
but I would have been happy with Harrison as well.
|
Dolfi | Walls:
Well, we tried to trade down in the first round in the hopes of
getting 2 quality RBs, rather than 1 stud RB and 1 borderline
RB... but that didn't pan out.
In the second round we realized that we really wanted to pick a
2nd RB to build our team around a strong rushing corps, but that
with Tiki Barber
being our best option at our 2.08 pick, we thought it was a
stretch to take Tiki at that pick. But if we pick our top
WR on the board here (Harrison) we know we will pass up on a
solid #2 RB.
The solution was to trade down, get the RB we targeted anyway,
and move up in later rounds to help beef up our WR corps or
maybe get a slightly better
QB in one of the early/mid rounds.
So we trade down 3 spots now, move up 3 next round and get an
extra 4th round pick for Mr. Nulty's 5th rounder. He gets
the player he coveted (Holt) and we don't reach for Barber and
move up in the next 2 rounds. Good move for both teams in this
instance.
